The South Rock Social Justice Film Society is proud to present Tea Creek, an inspiring 2024 Canadian documentary directed by Indigenous filmmaker Ryan Dickie.
Set in northwestern British Columbia, Tea Creek follows Tsimshian entrepreneur Jacob Beaton and his wife, Jessica Ouellette, who left corporate careers to establish a 140-acre Indigenous-led farming hub in Kitwanga, B.C. What began as a homestead has transformed into a vital movement—producing tens of thousands of pounds of fresh food distributed freely to local communities, while reviving traditional land-based practices and training Indigenous youth.
Beyond celebrating community resilience, the film confronts the systemic roots of food insecurity, showing how colonial policies intentionally disrupted traditional Indigenous agriculture and highlighting the ongoing modern hurdles facing land-based projects.
Tea Creek offers a powerful, practical vision of reconciliation, environmental sustainability, and community healing.
